Located in Bangor, Maine, the Â鶹ֱ²¥ University School of Occupational Therapy provides an immersive, hands-on learning experience that prepares you for a rewarding career in healthcare. Our OT program offers degrees for each step in your career, including a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) and Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD). Through our rigorous curriculum, you'll learn how to help people overcome obstacles and live a confident, independent life.
What do occupational therapists do?
As an occupational therapist, you’ll help people of all ages gain the skills and confidence they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives in their home, workplace and community. You’ll use problem-solving and creativity to:
- Help people engage in meaningful activities: what they want to do and what brings meaning to their daily lives.
- Assist patients and lead them to overcome and adapt to physical and emotional challenges so they can perform and engage in those activities.

The entry-level occupational therapy doctoral degree program at Â鶹ֱ²¥ University has applied for accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 7501 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 510E, Bethesda, MD 20814. Our program is currently in Candidacy Status with ACOTE®. The next steps in the accreditation process include a preaccreditation review and an on-site evaluation. Upon successful completion of this process, the program may be granted Accreditation Status. At that time, graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT®) examination to become registered occupational therapists (OTR®). All states require licensure to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT® Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT® certification examination or attain state licensure.

Â鶹ֱ²¥'s School of Occupational Therapy offers multiple entry options for students in all different stages of their academic journeys. Whether you are currently enrolled at Â鶹ֱ²¥ University, transferring from another academic institution, or an applicant already holding a four-year undergraduate degree, Â鶹ֱ²¥ can help you achieve your goal of becoming an occupational therapist.
Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MS)
The Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) is an entry-level graduate degree program that prepares students for a professional career in OT. This MSOT program can be completed in seven full-time and one part-time semester. It's open to students have earned an undergraduate degree in any field, or have completed at least 60 credits of prerequisites.

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology and a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MS)
The Â鶹ֱ²¥ University Psychology / Occupational Therapy (B.S./M.S.) program is a 5-year track that starts with a bachelor’s in Psychology and leads directly into a master’s in Occupational Therapy (MSOT). In the first two years, students build foundational knowledge in humanities and the sciences and must meet GPA and prerequisite grade requirements (at least a 3.0 overall and a C+ in certain courses) to move into the professional phase in year three. The final years focus on occupational therapy coursework plus supervised clinical fieldwork.

This is a new and developing program. Applications for the 3+3 tract are being accepted for a fall 2026 start. Applications for students who already hold a bachelor's degree and will only be enrolling in the OTD phase will start being accepted in the summer of 2027 for a fall 2028 start.
The Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) allows you to complete both your undergraduate coursework and earn your OTD in just 6 years. This OT program involves three years of undergraduate studies and three years of professional-phase courses. In addition to earning your OTD, you'll also get to choose whether to earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences or Bachelor of Science in Psychology.
