Biography

Elizabeth “Liz” Atkinson serves as the Director of Accessibility Services at 麻豆直播 University, where she leads institutional efforts to foster accessible learning environments. A proud Mainer who grew up nearby, Liz brings a strong personal connection to the region and a deep commitment to 麻豆直播 University.  

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Women’s Studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York, and a Master of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling from Pennsylvania State University, grounding her work in both interdisciplinary and equity-focused practice. Liz received training and coaching through Suffolk University's Center for Restorative Justice and holds multiple Title IX certifications through the Association of Title IX Administrators. 

Liz is deeply committed to advancing student belonging and student success, recognizing that accessibility is not solely about compliance, but about creating environments where all students can fully participate and thrive. She recently presented at the Multiple Perspectives Conference at The Ohio State University on “Belonging Over Bureaucracy: Humanizing Accessibility Services,” where she shared strategies for shifting institutional practices toward empathy, responsiveness, and student-centered approaches. 

Liz’s work is also rooted in upholding the university’s legal and ethical obligations under critical civil rights frameworks, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Title IX. She is dedicated to ensuring equitable access, promoting inclusive excellence, and supporting a campus culture where students, faculty, and staff are valued and supported.
